We design and install sound, lighting and AV systems for bars, pubs, nightclubs and late-night venues across London, East Sussex, Kent, Surrey and the wider South East.
Our work includes sound system design and installation, DJ booths, venue lighting, AV, acoustic treatment, system control and integration with other building systems.
We work on new venues, refurbishments and upgrades to existing systems, either directly with owners and operators or alongside architects, fit-out teams and main contractors. Each installation is designed around the venue, how it is used and any noise or licensing requirements that need to be considered.
Much of this work comes through operators, fit-out project managers and main contractors who have worked with us before.
Sound and lighting for bars, pubs and nightclubs
Different venues place very different demands on their sound and lighting systems.
A nightclub may need high-output sound across the dancefloor, subwoofers, a DJ booth, monitoring, stage connections, lighting and DMX control.
A bar may need zoned background music, screens, event lighting and straightforward controls for staff.
A pub may need a system that works at a lower level during normal trading but can also support live music, DJs or events.
We design the installation around those different uses rather than applying the same setup to every venue.
Sound that works across the whole venue
Bars and clubs rarely need the same sound level everywhere.
The dancefloor, bar, seating areas, private rooms and outside spaces may all need different levels of audio.
We can divide the system into zones so each area can be controlled separately. This gives staff more flexibility during quieter periods and means the bar does not have to operate at dancefloor volume just because the club area is busy.
Where required, zones can also have different sources and presets for regular operating modes.
The controls are set up so staff can make everyday changes without needing access to the main processing or system configuration.
Nightclub sound system design
High-output sound needs more consideration than simply choosing larger loudspeakers.
We look at the room, the audience area, speaker positions, subwoofer placement, amplification, processing and how sound behaves throughout the venue.
Low-frequency sound is particularly important. Bass can vary significantly across a room, and adding more subwoofers does not necessarily make coverage more even.
Positioning, alignment, processing and the acoustics of the room all affect the finished result.
Once the system has been installed, we commission it across the venue rather than setting it from one listening position.
DJ booths and live music
DJ booths can be designed as part of the main sound system rather than added afterwards.
We can provide booth monitoring, audio connections, cabling and tie lines for resident and visiting DJs.
Where outside DJs or performers are regularly using the venue, connection points can be provided so they can connect their equipment without needing access to the main system rack.
For venues running live music, the project can also include stage audio, microphones, monitoring and connections for visiting engineers.
Lighting for the stage or performance area can be planned at the same time.
Lighting for bars and nightclubs
Lighting is a major part of many bar and nightclub installations.
We design and install venue lighting including moving heads, washes, profiles, feature lighting, bar lighting, stage and event lighting and DMX control.
Lighting scenes can be programmed around the way the venue operates. That might mean one setting for early evening trading, another as the venue becomes busier and separate scenes for DJs, performances or events.
Where we are responsible for both sound and lighting, the systems can be designed together. Loudspeakers, lighting fixtures, truss, cabling, power and control can all be coordinated before installation starts.
This is particularly useful on new fit-outs, where ceiling positions and containment need to be agreed alongside ventilation, sprinklers and other services.

Acoustic treatment and sound insulation
Acoustic treatment and sound insulation deal with different problems.
Acoustic treatment controls the sound inside the venue. Hard surfaces and long reverberation times can make music less controlled and speech harder to understand, particularly once the room is busy.
Sound insulation deals with sound travelling out of the venue and into neighbouring properties or other parts of the building.
Bars and nightclubs can need both, especially where residential properties or other businesses are nearby.
Where a formal acoustic report is required for planning or licensing, this normally needs to be produced by an acoustic consultant. We can then design and commission the sound system around those requirements.
Noise limiters and premises licence conditions
Noise conditions can have a direct effect on the design of a venue sound system.
If the premises licence contains specific noise conditions, we need to see them before the equipment is specified.
Loudspeaker and subwoofer positions, overall output and any sound insulation requirements may all be affected by the permitted noise levels.
Where a noise limiter is required, it should be treated as part of the wider system rather than something added after commissioning.
We design the system around the venue and its operating requirements, and where an acoustic consultant has provided limits or recommendations, we work to that information.
Fire alarm and voice alarm integration
Entertainment audio also needs to work with the building’s fire-safety arrangements.
Depending on the fire strategy, that may mean the sound system needs to mute when the fire alarm activates or a voice alarm system needs to override the normal audio.
This should be considered at design stage rather than after the entertainment system has already been installed.

Screens, video and AV
Bars and clubs often need more than sound and lighting.
We can install commercial displays, video distribution and AV for sports, promotions, events and other content.
This can range from a few screens around a bar through to displays across different floors or areas of the venue.
Where video, sound and lighting form part of the same fit-out, we plan the cabling, equipment racks, control and network requirements together.

We will also be clear about where our work ends. We design and control sound systems and can advise where noise breakout is likely to be an issue. If a planning or licensing condition requires a formal acoustic report, that work needs to be carried out by an acoustic consultant. We can then design and commission the system in line with their recommendations.
Not every venue needs a limiter, and we will advise on what is appropriate for the building and its licence.

Working with an existing sound system
Many bars and clubs come to us with a system already in place.
Equipment may have been replaced or added over several years without the whole installation being reconsidered. That can lead to uneven coverage, difficult controls or areas that are either too loud or too quiet.
We inspect the existing loudspeakers, amplification, processing, cabling and controls before recommending what needs to change.
Sometimes the system can be improved through repositioning, processing, zoning or changes to the low end rather than replacing everything.
If existing equipment can still do the job, we will use it.
Controls for staff and operators
A technically capable system still needs to be straightforward to run.
Staff may need to change the music, alter the volume in one area, switch between trading modes or prepare the venue for an event.
We provide access to those everyday functions while keeping the main technical settings protected.
Presets can also be programmed for the venue’s normal ways of operating, reducing the amount of adjustment staff need to make during a shift.
New fit-outs and refurbishments
Bars and nightclub projects often form part of a wider fit-out.
We regularly work with architects, designers, fit-out project managers, electrical contractors and main contractors.
Getting involved before first fix allows loudspeaker positions, DJ booth connections, lighting, truss, cable routes, containment, equipment racks, power and network requirements to be agreed before finishes are complete.
It also makes it easier to coordinate sound and lighting with ventilation, sprinklers and other ceiling services.
Where the electrical package forms part of the same project, we can work alongside our sister company Lake Electrical.
Working around trading hours
Not every venue can close completely while work is carried out.
For upgrades and refurbishments, we can often phase work around trading hours and schedule more disruptive work for periods when the venue is closed.
Where a project forms part of a full fit-out, we work to the main contractor’s programme and coordinate our installation with the other trades.
Access requirements and any areas that need to come out of use are agreed before work begins.
AV networks and remote support
Larger venue systems can use network infrastructure for audio distribution, control and remote support.
Where required, we can provide a dedicated AV network with fixed IP addressing rather than relying entirely on the venue’s general network.
This is particularly useful where sound, lighting and AV are controlled across several areas.
Where suitable secure remote access is available, some checks and adjustments can also be completed without arranging a site visit.

Our engineers are employed and have been with us for years, and we can be contacted out of hours when support is needed.
We also look at any licence and noise restrictions before the system is specified. If there is something that is likely to affect the design, we want to identify it before installation begins.
Ease of use matters too. The system needs to work for the staff running the venue every day, so we make controls and presets straightforward rather than expecting someone with specialist audio knowledge to operate it.
We are not competing to be the cheapest installer. Our focus is on specifying the right system for the venue, installing it carefully and commissioning it before handover.

Bar and nightclub sound system questions answered
Do you survey the venue before quoting?
Always. A daytime visit tells us about the construction and the cabling, and we will usually ask to come back on a busy night, because where people stand is rarely where the drawings suggest. Surveying first is how you get a fixed scope instead of a figure that moves once the ceiling is open.
How much does a nightclub sound system cost?
There is no rate card, and any figure you get without a site visit is guesswork. What moves the price most is how much of the floor you need to cover and at what level, and how far up the loudspeaker range you want to go. After that it is whether the building needs sound insulation work before any of it is worth doing. We have a short budget conversation early, so nobody wastes a survey.
Can you work to a noise limiter and our premises licence conditions?
Yes. We will ask for a copy of the licence early on, because the condition shapes the design more than most people expect. If there is a limiter already, the first thing we check is what it was set to and against what. You get the commissioning figures in writing, so there is something to hand a licensing officer.
Can you install without closing the venue?
On a refurbishment, usually. Where a room has to come out of use we agree how long for before we start, and we work to whatever hours suit the building. A full fit-out is a different job, because we are working to the main contractor’s programme and we want to be in at first fix.
Do you install DJ booths and stage equipment?
Yes, and we build the booth into the audio design instead of fitting one afterwards and working around it. What matters is the cabling and the tie lines. A guest changeover should take a couple of minutes and should never involve touching the house system. Where a venue runs live music we specify the stage audio and the stage and event lighting with it.
Which sound system brands do you install?
We know the ranges well enough to argue about them, but nothing gets specified until we have heard the place with music playing. Martin Audio is the name most operators know, and we have been installing it for years.
Can you upgrade our existing system instead of replacing it?
Often, and it is worth asking before you budget for a replacement. Plenty of venues have loudspeakers worth keeping and a system failing on processing, amplification, positioning, or a limiter nobody ever commissioned. A measured survey tells us which. Now and then the answer is that new processing, sorting out the low end and rewiring the booth gets you most of the way for a fraction of the outlay.
